Magnetic Flux Quantum
\[\Phi_0=\frac{h}{2e}\]

Variables

Phi0[Φ_0]magnetic flux quantum (Wb)
hPlanck constant (J·s)
eelementary charge (C)

Description

What is this formula?

The magnetic flux quantum formula calculates the smallest quantized unit of magnetic flux in a superconducting loop. In superconductors, magnetic flux is quantized because charge carriers form Cooper pairs with charge 2e.

When to use it

This formula is used in superconductivity, quantum electronics, Josephson junctions, SQUID magnetometers, and superconducting circuit design.

Example

Using:

Φ_0 = h/(2e)

Where:

h = 6.626×10^-34 J·s

e = 1.602×10^-19 C

Substitution:

Φ_0 = (6.626×10^-34)/(2×1.602×10^-19)

Result:

Φ_0 ≈ 2.07×10^-15 Wb
