Luminosity Event Rate
\[R=L\sigma\]

Variables

Revent rate (1/s)
Lluminosity (1/(m²·s))
sigma[σ]cross section (m²)

Description

What is this formula?

The luminosity event rate formula calculates the number of particle interaction events occurring per second in a collider experiment. It combines beam luminosity and interaction cross section.

When to use it

Use this formula in accelerator physics, collider experiments, detector design, and particle interaction analysis.

Example

A collider operates with:

L = 2.0×10^34 1/(m²·s)

A process has:

σ = 5.0×10^-36 m²

Formula:

R = L*σ

Substitution:

R = (2.0×10^34)*(5.0×10^-36)

Result:

R = 0.10 events/s

The collider produces approximately 0.10 events per second for this interaction.

Applications

Particle colliders, detector event prediction, accelerator optimization, scattering experiments, and high-energy physics research.
