Magnetization from Magnetic Moment Density

Magnetization from Magnetic Moment Density
\[M=\frac{m}{V}\]

Variables

Mmagnetization (A/m)
mtotal magnetic moment (A·m²)
Vmaterial volume (m³)

Description

What is this formula?

This formula calculates the magnetization of a material from its magnetic moment distributed over a given volume. Magnetization measures the magnetic dipole moment density inside the material.

When to use it

Use this equation when studying magnetic materials, ferromagnetism, magnetic domains, and electromagnetic material properties.

Example

A magnetic sample has a total magnetic moment of 0.18 A·m² distributed over a volume of 0.004 m³. Calculate the magnetization.

Data:

m = 0.18 A·m²

V = 0.004 m³

Formula:

M = m/V

Substitution:

M = 0.18/0.004

Result:

M = 45 A/m

Applications

- Magnetic material characterization

- Ferromagnetic analysis
