\[B=\frac{\mu_0 I}{2R}\]
Variables
Bmagnetic field strength at loop center (T)
mu0vacuum permeability (H/m)
Ielectric current (A)
Rradius of the circular loop (m)
Description
What is this formula?
This formula calculates the magnetic field produced at the center of a circular current-carrying loop. The field direction is perpendicular to the plane of the loop.
When to use it
Use this equation when analyzing electromagnetic coils, current loops, magnetic sensors, and magnetic field generation systems.
Example
A circular loop of radius 0.12 m carries a current of 8 A. Calculate the magnetic field at the center of the loop.
Data:
I = 8 A
R = 0.12 m
mu0 = 4*pi*10^-7 H/m
Formula:
B = (mu0*I)/(2*R)
Substitution:
B = ((4*pi*10^-7)*8)/(2*0.12)
Result:
B = 4.19 × 10^-5 T
