\[I_C=\beta I_B\]
Variables
Iccollector current (A)
betacurrent gain
Ibbase current (A)
Description
What is this formula?
The BJT Collector Current formula calculates the collector current of a bipolar junction transistor based on the transistor current gain and base current.
When to use it
Use this formula when analyzing transistor amplifiers, switching circuits, biasing networks, or general BJT electronic circuits.
Example
A transistor has a current gain of 120 and receives a base current of 25 µA.
Given:
beta = 120
Ib = 25×10^-6 A
Formula:
Ic = beta Ib
Substitution:
Ic = 120 × 25×10^-6
Result:
Ic = 0.003 A
The collector current is 3 mA.
Applications
Transistor amplifiers, switching circuits, digital electronics, analog electronics, signal amplification, and electronic control systems.
