\[T = \frac{2 v_0 \sin(\theta)}{g}\]
Variables
Ttime of flight (s)
v0initial velocity (m/s)
thetalaunch angle (rad)
ggravitational acceleration (9.8 m/s²)
Description
What is this formula?
This equation calculates the total time a projectile remains in the air during ideal projectile motion.
When to use it
Use this formula when the projectile is launched and lands at the same vertical level and air resistance is neglected.
Example
If a projectile is launched at 20 m/s with an angle of 45°:
T = (2 × 20 × sin(45°)) / 9.81 = 2.88 s
Applications
Ballistics, sports trajectory analysis, engineering simulations, motion prediction, and physics education.
