Oxygen Delivery
\[DO_2=CO\times C_{aO_2}\]

Variables

DO2[DO₂]oxygen delivery (mL O₂/min)
COcardiac output (L/min)
CaO2[CaO₂]arterial oxygen content (mL O₂/L blood)

Description

What is this formula?

The Oxygen Delivery formula calculates the amount of oxygen transported to body tissues per unit time. It depends on both cardiac output and arterial oxygen content.

When to use it

Use this formula when evaluating tissue oxygen supply, cardiovascular performance, oxygen transport, or critical care patients.

Example

Data:

CO = 5.0 L/min

CaO2 = 200 mL O₂/L

Formula:

DO₂ = CO × CaO₂

Substitution:

DO₂ = 5.0 × 200

Result:

DO₂ = 1000 mL O₂/min

The body is delivering approximately 1000 mL of oxygen per minute to the tissues.

Applications

- Critical care medicine

- Hemodynamic monitoring

- Cardiology

- Respiratory physiology

- Shock assessment
