Variables
Description
What is this formula?
Perfusion Pressure (PP) represents the pressure gradient driving blood flow through an organ, tissue, or vascular bed. Blood flow occurs because of differences in pressure between the inflow and outflow sides of the circulation.
When to use it
Use this formula when evaluating organ perfusion, cerebral circulation, coronary circulation, renal blood flow, and hemodynamic status.
Example
Data:
Pin = 95 mmHg
Pout = 15 mmHg
Formula:
PP = Pin − Pout
Substitution:
PP = 95 − 15
Result:
PP = 80 mmHg
Applications
- Organ perfusion assessment
- Cerebral perfusion pressure calculations
- Coronary perfusion analysis
- Renal circulation studies
- Hemodynamic monitoring
Note
Perfusion pressure is a general physiological concept. In clinical practice, specific forms such as Cerebral Perfusion Pressure (CPP), Coronary Perfusion Pressure, or Renal Perfusion Pressure are often used, each with their own definitions of inlet and outlet pressure. The variables Pin and Pout represent a generalized model.
