\[RVSWI=(MPAP-CVP)*SVI*0.0136\]
Variables
RVSWIright ventricular stroke work index (g·m/m²/beat)
MPAPmean pulmonary artery pressure (mmHg)
CVPcentral venous pressure (mmHg)
SVIstroke volume index (mL/beat/m²)
Description
What is this formula?
The Right Ventricular Stroke Work Index (RVSWI) estimates the mechanical work performed by the right ventricle during each heartbeat, normalized to body surface area. It reflects the ability of the right ventricle to pump blood through the pulmonary circulation.
When to use it
Use this formula in critical care, pulmonary hypertension assessment, right heart failure evaluation, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
Example
Data:
MPAP = 25 mmHg
CVP = 5 mmHg
SVI = 40 mL/beat/m²
Formula:
RVSWI = (MPAP − CVP) × SVI × 0.0136
Substitution:
RVSWI = (25 − 5) × 40 × 0.0136
Result:
RVSWI = 10.88 g·m/m²/beat
Applications
- Right ventricular function assessment
- Pulmonary hypertension monitoring
- Critical care medicine
- Cardiac surgery
- Hemodynamic studies
