Surface Area of a Regular Tetrahedron

Surface Area of a Regular Tetrahedron
\[A = \sqrt{3}a^2\]

Variables

Asurface area (m²)
aedge length of the tetrahedron (m)

Description

What is this formula?

This formula calculates the total surface area of a regular tetrahedron. A regular tetrahedron has four identical equilateral triangular faces.

When to use it

Use this formula when calculating the external surface area of symmetric tetrahedral structures.

Example

If a tetrahedron has an edge length of 4 m:

A = √3 × 4²

A = 16√3

A ≈ 27.71 m²

Applications

- Geometry and mathematics

- 3D modeling and graphics

- Engineering and structural design

- Architecture

- Educational visualization
