Description
What is this formula?
Response Time measures the total elapsed time between the submission of a request and the completion of the corresponding response.
It is one of the most widely used performance metrics in software engineering, networking, cloud computing, database systems, and web services.
Lower response times generally indicate better user experience and system performance.
When to use it
Use this formula when:
- evaluating application responsiveness,
- measuring API performance,
- analyzing web server latency,
- benchmarking software systems,
- monitoring service-level agreements (SLAs).
Example
A user submits a request at:
Tq = 12.000 s
The response is completed at:
Tr = 12.350 s
Formula:
RT = Tr - Tq
Substitution:
RT = 12.350 - 12.000
RT = 0.350 s
Result:
Response Time = 350 ms
Applications
- Web applications
- Cloud services
- Database systems
- Network performance analysis
- API benchmarking
- User experience optimization
