Variables
Description
What is this formula?
Blast Hole Charge per Meter calculates the amount of explosive loaded per unit length of a blasthole. It is commonly used in drilling and blasting design to estimate explosive distribution along the charged section of the hole.
This value helps relate the total explosive charge to the geometry of the blasthole and is useful for checking whether the loading density is consistent with the blast design.
When to use it
Use this formula when:
- Estimating explosive loading density in a blasthole.
- Designing production blasts.
- Comparing different explosive loading patterns.
- Checking charge distribution along a drilled hole.
- Estimating total explosive mass from charged length.
Example
A blasthole contains 96 kg of explosive distributed along a charged length of 12 m.
Data:
Q = 96 kg
L = 12 m
Formula:
q = Q / L
Substitution:
q = 96 / 12
Result:
q = 8 kg/m
The blasthole contains 8 kilograms of explosive per meter of charged length.
Applications
- Open-pit blasting
- Underground blasting
- Quarry blast design
- Explosive loading control
- Charge distribution analysis
- Blast cost estimation
Note
Blast Hole Charge per Meter is a simplified loading indicator. In real blasting practice, charge distribution may vary along the hole due to decking, stemming, air decks, water conditions, explosive density, hole diameter, and safety requirements. The result should be interpreted as an average linear charge concentration unless the explosive column is uniformly loaded.
