Variables
Description
What is this formula?
Enrichment Ratio measures the degree to which a concentration process increases the grade of a valuable metal relative to its original grade in the feed.
It is one of the most common indicators used to evaluate the upgrading effectiveness of mineral beneficiation operations.
A larger enrichment ratio indicates a greater improvement in concentrate quality.
When to use it
Use this formula when assessing flotation, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, or other mineral processing methods where the objective is to increase the concentration of valuable minerals.
Example
A copper ore has:
Feed grade = 1.5 %
Concentrate grade = 24 %
Formula:
ER=c/f
Substitution:
ER=24/1.5
ER=16
Result:
The concentration process increased the copper grade by a factor of 16 compared with the original ore.
Applications
- Mineral beneficiation plants
- Flotation performance evaluation
- Gravity concentration
- Magnetic separation
- Metallurgical reporting
- Process optimization
Note
Enrichment Ratio is an empirical performance indicator rather than a fundamental physical law. A high enrichment ratio indicates strong upgrading of concentrate quality but does not guarantee high recovery of the valuable metal. Therefore, enrichment ratio should be evaluated together with metallurgical recovery and concentration ratio.
