Description
What is this formula?
Service Level measures the percentage of requests, customers, orders, or transactions that are completed within a predefined target time.
It is one of the most widely used performance indicators in operations management and customer service.
When to use it
Use this formula when:
- Evaluating customer service performance.
- Monitoring call centers.
- Measuring logistics performance.
- Assessing response-time compliance.
- Managing operational KPIs.
Example
A call center receives:
Nt = 2,000 calls
Calls answered within the target time:
Ns = 1,840 calls
Formula:
SL = (Ns/Nt) × 100
Substitution:
SL = (1,840/2,000) × 100
SL = 92%
Result:
The service level is 92%.
Applications
- Call centers
- Customer service
- Logistics operations
- Healthcare services
- Technical support centers
- Operations management
Note
The exact definition of service level varies between industries. Some organizations measure response time, while others measure delivery performance, order fulfillment, or customer wait times. The target criterion should always be clearly specified.
