What is this formula?

This formula estimates the inhaled dose of an indoor air pollutant from its concentration, the inhalation rate, and the exposure duration.


When to use it

Use it for simplified exposure assessment in indoor environments such as homes, schools, offices, hospitals, laboratories, and industrial buildings.

Data:


C = 40 µg/m³


IR = 0.8 m³/h


t = 6 h


Formula:


D = C · IR · t


Substitution:


D = 40 · 0.8 · 6


Result:


D = 192 µg


Applications

Note

This is a simplified exposure estimate. It assumes constant pollutant concentration, constant inhalation rate, and full exposure during the selected time period. More advanced exposure models may include activity level, age, body weight, filtration, deposition, time-varying concentrations, and toxicological dose-response factors.
