Variables
Description
What is this formula?
Transmission efficiency measures the percentage of power sent through a transmission line that successfully reaches the receiving end.
When to use it
Use this formula when evaluating transmission line performance, comparing network designs, estimating losses, and assessing power delivery effectiveness.
Example
A transmission line has:
Sending-end power = 120 MW
Receiving-end power = 114 MW
Formula:
η = (Pr / Ps) × 100
Substitution:
η = (114 / 120) × 100
Result:
η = 95.0%
Applications
Transmission line analysis
Power system planning
Energy loss evaluation
Electrical utility studies
Grid performance assessment
Note
This formula provides the overall transmission efficiency based on measured input and output power. Actual efficiency depends on conductor resistance, corona losses, dielectric losses, transformer losses, operating voltage, load level, and transmission distance.
