Description
What is this formula?
The receiving-end power equation calculates the real power delivered to the load at the receiving end of a transmission line.
When to use it
Use this formula when analyzing transmission line performance, load delivery capability, voltage regulation, power flow, and electrical system efficiency.
Example
A transmission line delivers:
Receiving-end voltage = 13800 V
Receiving-end current = 200 A
Power factor = 0.90
Formula:
Pr = Vr × Ir × PF
Substitution:
Pr = 13800 × 200 × 0.90
Result:
Pr = 2,484,000 W
Pr = 2.484 MW
Applications
Transmission line studies
Power flow analysis
Substation design
Load delivery calculations
Electrical network planning
Receiving station evaluation
Note
This equation calculates single-phase real power. For balanced three-phase systems, the more common expression is P = √3·VL·IL·PF. The receiving-end power depends on voltage level, current, power factor, and transmission line losses.
