Recycle Ratio
\[RR=\frac{R}{F}\]

Variables

RRrecycle ratio
Rrecycle flow rate (kg/s)
Ffresh feed flow rate (kg/s)

Description

What is this formula?

The recycle ratio quantifies the amount of material recycled back into a process relative to the fresh feed entering the system.

When to use it

Use this formula when analyzing chemical process flowsheets that contain recycle loops. It is commonly used in reactors, separation systems, and integrated process plants.

Example

A process receives a fresh feed of 100 kg/h and recycles 250 kg/h of unreacted material.

Formula:

RR = R / F

Substitution:

RR = 250 / 100

Result:

RR = 2.5

The recycle stream is 2.5 times the fresh feed rate.

Applications

- Chemical reactor recycle systems

- Distillation recycle loops

- Process simulation

- Material balance calculations

- Process optimization studies
