Fresh Feed Ratio
\[FFR=\frac{F}{M}\]

Variables

FFRfresh feed ratio
Ffresh feed flow rate (kg/s)
Mtotal mixed stream flow rate (kg/s)

Description

What is this formula?

The fresh feed ratio measures the contribution of fresh feed to the total mixed stream entering a process unit. It indicates how much of the inlet stream originates from new material rather than recycled material.

When to use it

Use this formula when analyzing recycle systems, reactor feed compositions, and process flow diagrams where fresh and recycled streams are combined before entering a processing unit.

Example

A reactor receives a mixed feed stream of 1200 kg/h. Of this amount, 300 kg/h comes from fresh feed and the remainder comes from recycle.

Formula:

FFR = F / M

Substitution:

FFR = 300 / 1200

Result:

FFR = 0.25

Fresh feed represents 25% of the total mixed stream entering the reactor.

Applications

- Recycle reactor design

- Material balance calculations

- Process optimization

- Feed composition analysis

- Chemical process simulation
