Celsius to Rankine Conversion

\[R = \frac{9}{5}(C + 273.15)\]

Variables

C = temperature in degrees Celsius (°C)
R = temperature in degrees Rankine (°R)

Description

What is this formula?

This formula converts a temperature from degrees Celsius (°C) to degrees Rankine (°R). The Rankine scale is an absolute temperature scale based on Fahrenheit increments and is mainly used in thermodynamics and engineering applications in the United States.

When to use it

Use this formula whenever a Celsius temperature must be converted to Rankine for thermodynamic equations, heat transfer calculations, gas turbine analysis, or engineering systems that use imperial units.

Example

Convert 20 °C to Rankine.

Data:

C = 20 °C

Formula:

R = (9*(C+273.15)/5)

Substitution:

R = (9*(20+273.15)/5)

Result:

R = 527.67 °R

Applications

- Thermodynamic calculations

- Heat transfer engineering

- Gas turbine analysis

- Aerospace engineering

- Power plant systems

- Industrial engineering using imperial units
