Average Power from Energy Transfer

Average Power from Energy Transfer
\[P_{avg} = \frac{\Delta E}{\Delta t}\]

Variables

Pavg = average power (W)
dE = energy transferred (J)
dt = time interval (s)

Description

What is this formula?

The average power equation calculates the rate of energy transfer over a time interval.

When to use it

Use this formula when analyzing engines, electrical systems, heat transfer, industrial machinery, or any process involving energy exchange over time.

Example

A system transfers 24000 J of energy in 40 s.

Data:

dE = 24000 J

dt = 40 s

Formula:

Pavg = dE/dt

Substitution:

Pavg = 24000/40

Result:

Pavg = 600 W

Applications

Mechanical engineering, electrical systems, thermodynamics, industrial energy analysis, power systems, and physics education.
