Circular Motion - Tangential Velocity

Circular Motion - Tangential Velocity
\[v = \omega r\]

Variables

v = tangential velocity (m/s)
omega = angular velocity (rad/s)
r = radius of rotation (m)

Description

What is this formula?

This equation calculates the tangential velocity of an object moving along a circular path.

When to use it

Use this formula when analyzing rotational systems where angular velocity and radius are known.

Example

If a rotating disk has an angular velocity of 12 rad/s and a radius of 0.5 m:

v = 12 × 0.5 = 6 m/s

Applications

Rotating machinery, wheels, turbines, robotics, mechanical engineering, and circular motion analysis.
