What is this formula?

This formula calculates the space diagonal of a rectangular prism. The space diagonal is the longest straight-line distance between two opposite vertices inside the prism.


When to use it

Use this formula when determining internal distances in three-dimensional rectangular structures or objects.


Example

If a rectangular prism has:

length = 6 m

width = 4 m

height = 3 m


d = √(6² + 4² + 3²)

d = √61

d ≈ 7.81 m
