Square Area, Perimeter and Diagonal
\[\begin{aligned} A &= a^2 \\ P &= 4a \\ d &= a\sqrt{2} \end{aligned}\]

Variables

A = area
P = perimeter
d = diagonal
a = side length

Description

What is this formula?

This set of formulas calculates the area, perimeter, and diagonal of a square using the length of one side.

When to use it

Use these formulas in geometry, architecture, engineering, design, and construction whenever square dimensions are involved.

Example

For a square with side length 6 m:

Area:

A = 6² = 36 m²

Perimeter:

P = 4*6 = 24 m

Diagonal:

d = 6*√(2) ≈ 8.49 m

Applications

- Floor and tile calculations

- Structural and architectural layouts

- Graphic and CAD design

- Land and surface measurements

- Manufacturing and fabrication
