Rectangle Area, Perimeter and Diagonal
\[\begin{aligned} A &= w*h \\ P &= 2*(w+h) \\ d &= \sqrt{w^2+h^2} \end{aligned}\]

Variables

A = area
P = perimeter
d = diagonal
w = width
h = height

Description

What is this formula?

This set of formulas calculates the area, perimeter, and diagonal length of a rectangle using its width and height.

When to use it

Use these formulas in geometry, construction, architecture, engineering, manufacturing, and graphical design whenever rectangular dimensions are involved.

Example

For a rectangle with width 5 m and height 3 m:

Area:

A = 5*3 = 15 m²

Perimeter:

P = 2*(5+3) = 16 m

Diagonal:

d = √(5²+3²) ≈ 5.83 m

Applications

- Floor and land area calculations

- Screen and display dimensions

- Construction layouts

- CAD and technical drawing

- Packaging and material estimation
