Annulus Area

Annulus Area
\[A = \pi(R^2-r^2)\]

Variables

A = annulus area (m²)
R = outer radius (m)
r = inner radius (m)

Description

What is this formula?

This formula calculates the area of an annulus, which is the region between two concentric circles with different radii.

When to use it

Use this formula when the inner and outer radii of a ring-shaped region are known and the enclosed area needs to be determined.

Example

If the outer radius is 6 m and the inner radius is 3 m:

A = π(6² - 3²) = 84.823 m²

Applications

- Geometry and mathematics

- Mechanical and civil engineering

- Washer and gasket design

- Pipe and flange calculations

- Manufacturing and construction
